#LiftEachOtherUp on Pink Shirt Day
Lift Each Other Up: Pink Shirt Day
#PinkShirtDay reminds us that we all have a responsibility to #LiftEachOtherUp, today and every day.
Pink Shirt Day is also known as Anti-Bullying day, and was an idea originating in Canada after a 9th grade student was bullied for wearing a pink shirt on the first day of school. On this day, Qi Coaches sported pink shirts at the office, and at visits in schools, homes and the larger community.
In hindsight as “grownups”, as our lives expand beyond the classroom, bullying can seem like an issue detached from ourselves: enough time has passed, or your responsibilities are so different at age 45 compared to 15, that what counts as bullying can seem small or trivial on the outside.
What we do know, however, is that bullying is a pervasive issue no matter who you are or where you come from; that there are more complex forms of bullying in today’s world than ever before; that bullying can negatively impact our hearts and minds and convince us that we are less than who we believe we are or can be. The aftermath of bullying can persist as a recurring trauma throughout one’s lifetime and change the way we look at the world—or even the extent to which we perceive ourselves.
Jon Jon Rivero, CEO of Qi Creative, shared thoughts and tips to support those currently experiencing #bullying, or going through experiences where you may have been a bully to someone before. Watch the IGTV video here.
We hope on a day like today, you do more than just wear a pink shirt before leaving it in your closet for another year. We hope that on a day like today, you take the time to think about why we needed a day like this to raise awareness to begin with, and ask yourself—in what ways can I support others who are going through bullying at this time?
A pink shirt is just the beginning. What you do today and tomorrow to address bullying is up to you.
